Flights to and from Perth
The least expensive direct flights to Perth depart Adelaide either at 12.15pm and arrive at 2.15pm or depart at 3.05pm and arrive at 4.55pm
To return they depart at 1.20pm or 5.50pm and the cost is about $250 pp each way with 20-23kg of luggage.

We are working on ten rides something like these.

Wed April 24th Arrive
Thursday April 25th (ANZAC Day) Collect hire bikes and ride a loop including Kings Park and Subiaco.
Friday April 26th Canning River loop
Saturday April 27th Catch a train from near accommodation to seaside town of Mandurah which takes 1 hour. Explore Mandurah by bike.
Sunday April 28th Riding to a station and catching the train to Midland which is at the foot of the Perth escarpment. We can then ride a loop through John Forrest National Park and the Railway Heritage Trail. These are gravelly trails best suited to a hard tail mountain bike. These trails are well worth the effort to get to them and pass by several little hills villages. Train back to Perth and ride the last 6kms to Como on the bike path,
Monday April 29th Ride through Perth out to historic Guildford returning partly on the train but riding the last 6kms.
Tuesday April 30th The day we transfer to Fremantle. Everyone can ride there via the southern banks of the Swan River. We will work out how to move our luggage to the new apartments.
Wed May 1st Ride to Cottesloe and City Beach
Thursday May 2nd Travel to Rottnest Island on the ferry and ride around the island if you wish
Friday May 3rd Ride South in loop including Coogee Beach
Saturday May 4th Northern side of Swan River
Sunday May 5th Our Tour ends

We are planning pleasure rides of about 40 kms in length perhaps a bit shorter with a couple about 50 kms. With the exception of the Railway Heritage Trail all are on bitumen bike paths or the quietest roads we can find. The cycling around Perth, while not as flat as the Adelaide plains is fairly flat. We are going to hire traditional bikes and will not be going fast.

Below are two bike hire businesses which we have found. You may find others.

About Bike Hire which is very conveniently located at the Causeway just out of Perth on a bike path. We used this company quite a few years ago on a previous trip without problems. They have hybrid bikes, MTB,s and some E bikes. The bikes appear to be of good quality but not as high end as many of our club members may be used to. We feel that for the rides we are planning they will be sufficient. The prices seem very reasonable and they can be delivered as well with prior booking. https://aboutbikehire.com.au/

Velo City This company will deliver and pick up and seems to have extremely good quality bikes. They have E bikes and road bikes however the price is fairly high. https://velocityrides.com.au/

If you are thinking of hiring you bike have a look at these web sites. You can of course bring your own bike boxed on the plane or on your car should you choose to drive to WA.

Note about the trip to Rottnest Island.
The ferry leaves from Fremantle wharf which is 1.3kms from our Be. Apartments.

The fare is $74 return including the fee to enter the island Bike hire is $35 for the day and is paid when booking the journey. We would not recommend taking your bike to Rottnest because you will worry about it and it is a very sandy salty environment, both on the land and on the ferry. If you don’t want to ride around the island there are interesting walks around the main tourist parts as well as historic sites. (www.Rottnestisland.com).

The loop ride we intend to do is approximately 20 kms and hilly due to being on sand dunes.

Please note that this tour is now full, however if you wish to be placed on a waitlist, please email Paul or Robyn Davill on davills@internode.on.net and advise if you want to do the whole trip or part of the trip.
