16th to 19th October 2026 – Gravel Grin Capers: Laura 2026
Dates: Friday 16^th to Monday 19^th October 2026 inclusive.
Accommodation, food and drink, transport and mechanical support are the responsibility of participants.

These rides are ideally suited for mountain bikes and gravel bikes as the routes are mostly on gravel and dirt roads, with the occasional access track to keep things interesting. Some linking parts of the routes are on bitumen of course but road bikes are not recommended for Gravel Grin Capers rides. Legal sparse bikes (e-bikes with sparks under your arse) are welcome.

Default for rides: start at Meryle’s Café (main street of Laura) and finish at Little Blessings Brewing (Victoria St opposite the Laura Community Caravan Park).
Ride times:
Friday 16^th 1200 (allowing time for travel from Adelaide in the morning);
Saturday 17^th and Sunday 18^th 1000. Adjustments to start times and routes can be made on the fly depending on weather (wind and temperature especially) and what people desire.
Monday 19^th ride start time, place and distance conducive to onward travel, be that elsewhere or a return to Adelaide.

Ride styles: Stu Clement and Laura local Wayne Gifford have put together a considerable portfolio of riding options.
Gentle rides 20-35km, not too many hills and smoothish roads.
Regular rides 30-70km with more bumps and gnarls.
Challenging rides >70km incorporating whatever level of masochism is desired.

New Zealand 2027 – South Island
The ultimate supported DIY South Island New Zealand Cycling Tour. 24 trails 1690km cycling available.
Multi-night stays in South Island locations a total of ten different locations. 30 nights maximum riding 1800 km for 24 participants supported by two 12 seat minibuses one 8 seat people mover.
The alternative to riding is a daily tourist at any location, interesting towns or great walks or jumping off a bridge with an elastic rope. Maybe flying in helicopters, scenic boat trips and much more. We need a minimum of one driver each day – when in-transit 3 drivers.
Cost estimate for 31 nights’ accommodation $1800 and transport $1200 each total $3000 each. You feed yourselves from a kitty with group meals as often as possible (it elevates camaraderie, fun to encourage culinary skills, lowers your cost of eating out substantially).
Airfare and bicycle hire are your responsibility (bringing your own bike is a viable option).

Winter 2026 Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Loop – small Group Tour
NOTE: This is a limited numbers tour and is fully subscribed.
Expressions of interest are sought from riders interested in an unsupported loop ride out from Brisbane. Travelling by train up to the Glass House Mountains, doing a loop ride there (32km), then on the train again up to Gympie and across to the top of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail to Ipswich (347km) to catch the train back to Brisbane. Camping, cabins or local pubs etc.

Tuesday April 21st – Friday April 24th 2026 Barossa mid week ride
Meet at Gawler Central Railway station for departure after the arrival of the 12:01pm train on Tuesday 21st. April and ride to Nuriootpa CP (35km). Alternatively participants can simply drive to Nuriootpa however this will be my first short foray into Credit Card Bike Touring where you travel light (pack clothes, toiletries, electronic gadgets) and pay for accommodation and food rather than carry it.
Accommodation to be arranged by participants.
There will be a ride of approximately 60km for each of the 2 days (Wednesday and Thursday) both leaving from the Nuriootpa Caravan park at 9am.
On Friday 24th.April ride back to Gawler Central Railway station or drive home .

NZ North Island Tour – from Monday 22nd February 2026
We are planning a tour to New Zealand to explore some of the North Island trails and sights. Starting Monday February 22nd 2026 the tour will be approximately 17 days duration.
Some of the highlights include Hauraki Rail Trail, Timber trail, Mangapurua Track/Bridge to Nowhere and Mountains to Sea as we explore south of Auckland as far as Whanganui.

You will…
-organise and purchase your own transport to and from Australia and to your first night’s accommodation in Auckland as well as your return home from your last night’s accommodation.
-book and purchase your NZ bike hire for the tour if you are not bringing your own bike.
-Organise Travel Insurance.

Your Tour payment will cover…

• Hire of 12 seater buses with bike trailers.
• Fuel for buses
• Accommodation for the Tour nights

Your expression of interest will allow the organisers to get more accurate costings for accommodation and transport.
A meeting of all interested members will be held in June to provide further details and answer questions about the tour.
After the meeting you will be asked to pay a deposit if you intend to be part of the adventure. This allows the organisers to pay deposits for accommodation and transport.
The remainder of your Tour payment will be required at a later date to cover full payments for transport and accommodation

Burra 4 day 4 ride tour – 14 to 17 September 2025

Dates: Sunday 14th September to Wednesday 17th September 2025

Two rides will be offered each day, one PERFECT ride style at around 60-70km and the other a 40-50km ride. All riders will start together and the shorter ride group will peel off at some stage.
Burra accommodation and transport to be arranged by participants.

Sunday 14/9 – Drive to Clare, loop ride from Clare, then drive on to Burra
Monday 15/9 – Loop ride from Burra
Tuesday 16/9 – Loop ride from Burra
Wednesday 17/9 – Leave cars in Burra and ride to Reisling trail. Drivers to take pre-booked bus back to Burra to collect cars at end of ride then collect passengers and bikes on the way back to Adelaide.

Samoa Cycling Tour – 22 to 31 July 2025

Mt Buller – Victorian mountain biking
Dates : Sunday 9 Feb to Monday 17 Feb [Please note earlier start] 8 nights

Group size: 15 maximum

Mt Buller in the summer
The mountain has a wide range of technical bike trails as well as trails that take your further afield. The trails and facilities were upgraded in 2022.. technical riding!
We will ride trails through snow gum woodlands, treeless alpine summits, dropping off into cool ferny glades surrounded by granite monoliths, and finishing alongside a crystal clear mountain stream. We will ride to Mt Stirling and also around the Buller foothills. A trip to Mansfield and some rail trail riding as well as just going and doing some wine tasting!

Although this trip targets mountain bikes, there are some options for gravel bikes. Participants will be encouraged to submit ride ideas.

RASA bushwalkers will be holding their alpine camp in the adjacent lodge at Buller. RASA members are welcome to participate in their walks too.

Accommodation: RCH (Royal Children’s Hospital) Alpine Buller lodge. There are 14 bedrooms in the lodge. There are two kitchens and two lounge areas. Bedrooms are mostly twin share (11 rooms) with one double and two single rooms. Most bathrooms are shared, between 2 rooms.

Mt Buller rides: A plan but we can also be flexible.

Bikes: This trip is not suitable for road bikes. Suggest Gravel and/or Mountain Bikes. Riders are responsible to maintain their equipment.
Rides: All rides are optional and where possible will depart the Base accommodation. Helpful if riders have their RWGPS working and have rides downloaded to their navigation devices.

Flinders/Melrose/Burra September 2024
Starting in the Flinders Ranges on Saturday 7th September 2024 before moving to Melrose on 12th September and then to Burra on 17th September. Finishes in Burra on 21st September.
12 days of riding. 4 rides in each area. Rides will be in the PERFECT ride style with distances of 50-70km and ascents of 600-900m.
Come along for the whole two weeks or join at any point throughout the tour.

Mt Buller and Mt Hotham – Victorian mountain biking in summer
Dates : January 14 to 23, 2024

Expressions of interest must be made by the 8th of December.
Two mountains, twice the fun!
Mt Buller The mountain has a wide range of technical bike trails and that take you further afield. The trails and facilities were upgraded in 2022. We will take some of the longer trails with a shuttle service to take us back. There are a number of walks available as well as a winery and other tourism.
Downhill mountain biking has 40kms of superb tailor-made single tracks and another 60kms of mixed-use shorter trails   that are rated from easy to advanced with the  option of a service to take you back uphill.
We will do the EPIC trail, a 40km tough and exhilarating ride through snow gum woodlands, treeless alpine summits, dropping off into cool ferny glades surrounded by granite monoliths, and finishing alongside a crystal clear mountain stream. A shuttle from Mirimbah takes you back up the mountain! A ride to mount Stirling is also a must.
Although this trip targets mountain bikes, there are some options for road bikes.  Participants will be encouraged to submit ride ideas.
Mt Hotham This mountain also has some great riding as well as walking trails. We will take a trail to Dinner Plan as well as the Victoria river.
There are a number of walks available as well as a winery and other tourism.
Accommodation: RCH (Royal Children’s Hospital) Alpine lodge. There are 14 bedrooms in the lodge. There are two kitchens and two lounge areas. Bedrooms are mostly twin share (11 rooms) with one double and two single rooms.  Most bathrooms are shared. Preferences will be taken into consideration.
Cost: $355 per person. Marienne will be the lodge leader and places will be confirmed by payment. The lodge must be left clean and duties will be allocated based on the room. BYO: Sheets, food and alcohol. A food store is located at both Mt Buller and Mt Hotham.

Grampians bike tour 24 April to 1 May 2023
Maximum participants six.
A week of bike touring through the spectacular Gariwerd  National Park (the Grampians). The ride will combine riding with bushwalking and camping in six different national park campsites. The 200km will be 83% gravel, including iconic tracks such as the Victoria Range road, the Goat track and Ingleton track. Additional rides will be from the  camp such as Lake Wartook. The walks will include McKenzie and Fish Falls in the north and the Pinnacle from Halls Gap.

This is a touring and camping trip. The idea is that we will have several rides planned out by various members to try to cover the different interests of our riders. Hopefully, there will be some short, all bike trail rides, some more challenging rides on dirt roads and some longer roadie type rides. There may even be a lunch ride to a winery and back. Some of the rides will involve a drive to the start and possibly a car shuffle. The first day’s ride will be pre-arranged. We will have our usual 5pm Happy Hour each afternoon and at this time members can decide what ride they would like to attempt the next day and someone may need to step up and lead it. Several of us on the committee will have prepared a ride or two but if any member has an idea for a ride in these areas please, we would love to hear from you. At this stage we do not have the rides fully prepared only some ideas. Just before the event we will let the participants know more details. Both the Clare Valley and the Fleurieu Peninsula are perfect for cycling adventures.
